One of the things Courage Campaign does is hold our elected leaders accountable for their actions. Recently, Courage Campaign Blogger Todd Beeton
described the scene as Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA 46) insulted and demeaned the mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters of our troops in Iraq. Rohrabacher, who lives in Huntington Beach, told the families of our soldiers that they are "unpatriotic," accused them of "lowering troop morale," and barked that these families should "be ashamed" of themselves.
It's the "distinguished" Congressman who should be ashamed.
Now, with your support, Military Families Speak Out - Orange County is taking action to hold Congressman Rohrabacher accountable for his despicable words and deeds.
Many of you have already signed
the petition and left messages for the Congressman. On Monday, October 23rd at 6pm, this petition will be presented to Rep. Rohrabacher at Golden West College in Huntington Beach where he is due to debate his Democratic challenger, Jim Brandt.
If you haven't had a chance, go sign the petition now. Below, some of your comments for Rohrabacher are reprinted:
""I am one of the military mothers you insulted. It's time you stepped down. We need insightful and compassionate leaders, not someone who resorts to yelling and taunting when faced with people who disagree with you. There's no place for bullies in Congress."
-Laurie L.
"My Marines are dying every week because cowards like you refuse to bring them home. You shame yourself everyday you do not show the courage to stop this war."
-Richard G.
"You need a lesson in patriotism, morality, and support for the troops, not the Military Families Speak Out members you lectured. It is insulting to all military families when you suggest that because our loved ones volunteered to serve this country that means they should go to an illegal and immoral war. As a military wife living in California, I find it especially disturbing that you treat military family members this way. You should be ashamed of yourself."
-Lisa L.
